Special education services at Cedar Unified School District are delivered in the least restrictive environment (LRE), according to the individual needs and learning style of each student. Special education services are delivered in a manner that is consistent with the child's learning style and special needs. The intent is to maintain maximum access to the general education curriculum in a classroom with the child's age-appropriate non-disabled peers. The IEP team consisting of the child's parents, general education classroom teacher, special education teacher, school district administrator, school psychologist, and appropriate related-service personnel determines all placement decisions.

A Special Education Teacher and a Special Education Teacher Assistant will deliver direct instruction to the students who receive Special Education services in the traditional resource room.  The Special Education Department of C.U.S.D will provide a schedule.

A Special Education Teacher and a Special Education Teacher Assistant will provide supplemental services and support for those students who are mainstreamed into the general education classroom for academic instruction, according to each child's IEP.

The students, who receive Special Education services in a self-contained classroom, will be included in the regular education classroom when it is appropriate, as determined by the IEP team.

Often, in all three special education delivery models, other professionals or paraprofessionals may visit the regular classroom to assist with implementation of the child's Individual Education Program (IEP).

The mission of the Special Education Department is to allow students with disabilities to experience progress in the general curriculum. Each student is a member of a general education classroom.  Special needs are identified and met through individualized programs. IEP goals are established using the Arizona Academic Standards as a foundation. Support is provided to the student. Special Education and related-service staff provides this support.
